How to Be a Responsible Father

President Obama was spot on when he stated that the ability to have a child is not the true mark of fatherhood. The basic thing is the courage to raise a child and this is why every father out there needs to embrace the ethics of responsible fatherhood. Being a responsible father covers a lot of ground but there are basic qualities every good father ought to have. Below are some things you should do if you truly want to be a responsible father.

Be a good husband
Getting married to the woman you love is a dream come true. If you are fortunate enough to have a wife, the least you can do is to treat her like a queen. Love your wife, treat her well and always be there for her. Remember that children are very observant. If you love your wife, you are sending a powerful message. You are training your son to treat his own wife well in future. You are also sending a message to your daughter and the message is simply this. There are good men out there so do not settle for less than you deserve.

Communicate with your children
One of the best ways to be a father is to communicate with your children. Be open and friendly and give your children the attention they deserve. Take out time to answer their questions, get involved with their school activities and generally show them that you care. Keep communication lines open because this is one the marks of responsible fatherhood.

Mentor your children
As a father, you are an authority figure but this does not mean you should be distant and authoritarian. You can exercise your authority as a father without coming across as a despot. In fact, you should be more of a leader than a boss to your children. Mentor your children and guide them so that they will make the right decisions. You have the advantages of age, experience and knowledge. Use these advantages to serve your children as a mentor and as an exemplary leader.

Do not discriminate
Some parents believe in creating and fostering stereotypes for their sons and daughters but this is not the right approach to responsible parenting.  Train your children to believe that boys and girls are intellectual equals. Your daughters and your sons should have lofty ambitions. Girls are not inferior to boys and gender should not be an impediment to ambition.

Teach time management
One vital skill you should teach your children is time management. Teach your children to write "to do" lists because this will help them accomplish a lot in life. In addition, train your kids to have daily weekly and monthly targets. Reward them when they meet their targets and encourage the ones who did not meet their targets to try harder.

Final word
Responsible fatherhood is not a stroll in the park. It takes patience, time and tons of effort to train your children the right way. Be an excellent example to your children and they will grow up to become leaders in future. We have provided most of the information above, for further information, check out this website.
